Latvian handball star Valdis Kalnins nets 20 goals and signs with Norway's Elverum

Valdis Kalnins, the 19‑year‑old Latvian back, scored 20 goals as Latvia defeated Serbia 40‑37 in the placement round of the U20 European Handball Championship in Romania. After seven matches he has amassed 93 goals, averaging 13.3 per game, attracting attention from clubs abroad. Following the tournament he chose to join Norwegian club Elverum, citing the positive atmosphere during his training visit. German side VfL Potsdam also expressed interest, but Kalnins decided on Elverum to further his development.
