Latvian insurers report high storm damage claims
Insurance companies in Latvia are reporting significant increases in claims following widespread storm damage across the country.
BTA Baltic Insurance Company has received 200 claims, including 45 for land vehicles and 155 for property. The company has reserved one million euros to cover these losses, noting that damage was primarily caused by heavy rain and falling trees or branches hitting homes, fences, and vehicles.
Balta has reported receiving over 350 claims within a single day, primarily concerning property and residential damage. The insurer estimates that total losses could exceed several million euros. Reported damages include broken roofs, damaged facades, flooded basements, and destroyed greenhouses. Balta has also processed approximately 30 claims related to vehicle damage caused by falling trees and branches.
