Latvian police detain sports coach on suspicion of child sexual abuse

The State Police of Latvia has opened a criminal case under Article 160 of the Criminal Code for alleged sexual violence against a minor. Police detained one coach, applying custody as a protective measure.

A parent reported the coach to the club, which works with children aged eight to ten. The club immediately terminated its cooperation with the trainer and informed authorities. According to senior police public‑relations officer Rūta Strautniece, no prior complaints had been made against the coach, and investigators are not releasing further details at this stage.
