Latvian President begins talks with parties after Saeima elections

Following the 15th Saeima elections, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs has scheduled a series of meetings with the top political parties to begin discussions regarding government formation. On Monday, October 5, the President will meet with representatives from 'Apvienotais saraksts' (AS), 'Latvija pirmajā vietā' (LPV), 'Suverēnā vara/Apvienība jaunlatvieši' (SV/AJ), and the National Alliance (NA). Further meetings with 'Progresīvie' and 'Jaunā Vienotība' (JV) are slated for Tuesday.

While the exact timeline for coalition negotiations remains unclear, government officials have indicated that initial talks may focus on the existing coalition framework involving the National Alliance and Jaunā Vienotība. Prime Minister candidate Andris Kulbergs of the 'Apvienotais saraksts' party and other political leaders, including Andris Šuvajevs and Jūlija Stepaņenko, are participating in the electoral process, with many casting their votes on Saturday, October 3, following a period of early voting.
