Latvian race walkers set national records at European Championships

Latvian race walkers Raivo Saulgriezis and Modra Liepiņa set new national records at the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.

In the men's marathon, Raivo Saulgriezis finished 13th with a time of 3:07:09, establishing a new Latvian record. The event was won by Italy's Massimo Stano, who set a new European record with a time of 2:56:49. Spain's Miguel Angel Lopez took second place, and France's Aurélien Kinnon took third.

In the women's marathon, Sofia Fiorini of Italy won the event and set a new world record with a time of 3:15:11.

In the women's half marathon, Modra Liepiņa made her European Championship debut, finishing 30th. She completed the distance in 1:48:58, setting a new Latvian national record and improving her personal best. The half marathon was won by Spain's María Pérez García with a time of 1:30:06.
