Latvian Saeima deputies received nearly 19,000 euros in July compensations

Latvian Saeima deputies received a total of 18,951.16 euros in July 2026 for housing rent and transportation expense compensations. Of this total, 12,158.06 euros was allocated for housing, while 6,793.10 euros was used for transport costs.

Kaspars Melnis (ZZS) received the highest total compensation at 1,277.24 euros. Other notable recipients included Līga Kļaviņa, Ramona Petraviča, and Anita Brakovska. Līga Kozlovska received the largest single housing compensation of 800 euros.

In response to these payments, a public initiative on the ManaBalss.lv platform gathered over 10,000 signatures calling for the abolition of these compensations. The initiative, led by Andis Feldmanis, argues that deputies should not have a more favorable financial position regarding these expenses than other state or municipal employees. The proposal suggests that the saved budget funds could be redirected to other significant societal needs.
