Latvian security agencies evaluate risks after CSDD cyberattack
Following a cyberattack on the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) in Latvia, various operational agencies are evaluating security measures to mitigate risks from leaked data. The breach potentially exposed sensitive information, including names, personal codes, addresses, vehicle registration numbers, and payment details.
Latvian law enforcement and security agencies, including the State Police, the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), the Internal Security Bureau (IDB), and the State Security Service (VDD), are assessing the impact on their operations. The State Police are considering replacing license plates for certain vehicles to identify and mitigate risks. The VDD is implementing measures to protect official identities and prevent the identification of service vehicles.
Experts warn that the stolen data could be used for sophisticated social engineering and phishing attacks. By using specific details like vehicle numbers or past payment amounts, attackers can create highly convincing fraudulent communications. Customers are advised to verify any unexpected contact from CSDD by using official websites or apps directly rather than clicking on links in messages.
