Latvian security service detains person over pro-Kremlin group threats

The Latvian State Security Service (VDD) has detained one person in Riga following threats issued by the pro-Kremlin group ‘Global Citizens Against War 1984’ (GCAW1984). The group, which has previously claimed responsibility for sabotage acts in Europe, issued an ultimatum demanding that companies supplying weapons to Ukraine cease operations by October 7.

The threats targeted several companies across Latvia, Poland, and Portugal, including Latvian firms ‘Eraser’ and ‘Unitruck’, Polish companies such as ‘PGZ’ and ‘WB Electronics’, and the Portuguese company ‘Tekever’. The group threatened to halt these companies’ operations ‘by any means’ if their demands were not met.

In response, the VDD initiated criminal proceedings regarding threats to commit terrorism. During the investigation, authorities conducted searches at the suspect's residence and vehicle, seizing data carriers and other items for analysis. The suspect is currently being held in custody.
