Latvian star Davis Bertans ends 15-year national team career

Latvian forward Davis Bertans announced his retirement from the Latvia men’s national basketball team after a 15‑year spell. In a video message he thanked fans for “15 great years,” noted that his last game – a home Euro‑qualifier loss – was bittersweet, and said he will now support the team from the stands.

Bertans’ international résumé includes participation in the 2023 World Cup and three European Championships (2011, 2017, 2025). At 34, he is set to begin his third season with the Dubai club that has been his team since its inception. He expressed confidence that Latvian basketball is in a better place than when he first debuted and pledged to remain one of its biggest supporters.
