Latvian volleyball team heads to European Championship
The Latvian men's national volleyball team is heading to the 2026 European Championship, where they are scheduled to open their campaign against hosts Romania. Head coach Uģis Krastiņš noted that playing the opening match against the hosts in a sold-out arena could provide a psychological advantage, as the pressure may fall more heavily on the Romanian side.
Following the conclusion of the European Championship, Krastiņš will transition to a new club role in Belgium, where he will lead the team Greenyard Maaseik. He will be joined at the club by Latvian national team player Gustavs Freimanis. Krastiņš's career includes significant experience coaching in Finland, Ukraine, and Poland, as well as leading the Ukrainian national team to European Championship quarter-finals.
