Latvia's spirit output jumps 55% in first five months of 2026
The State Revenue Service (VID) reports that Latvia produced 3.064 million litres of absolute‑alcohol spirits in the first five months of 2026, a 55.2% rise over the same period in 2025 and 1.09 million litres more than a year earlier. Ethanol production increased by 27.4% (344,480 litres), while dehydrated spirit was not produced at all.
Imported ethanol fell 48.3% year‑on‑year to 3.068 million litres, and ethanol used in alcoholic drinks dropped 44.9% to 3.163 million litres. Export of ethanol to other EU member states rose 62.5% to 2.517 million litres. Overall, total spirit production in 2025 had fallen 32.4% compared with 2024, and total 2025 production was 5.483 million litres, 2.622 million litres less than in 2024.
