Latvia's State Chancellery Reopens Director Search with Lowered Requirements
The State Chancellery of Latvia announced a repeat competition for the post of director, significantly reducing the eligibility criteria that had been set in the May 2026 call. The new requirements accept either a highest academic degree or a secondary‑level professional qualification, with a master's degree now only optional. Candidates must have at least five years of leadership experience in the past decade, but the required size of the team they have led has been cut from a minimum of 50 employees to 20. Experience representing state interests in EU institutions or international organisations is now merely desirable, as is experience with financial or investment projects. An additional requirement calls for knowledge of the management of public‑person capital companies. The monthly salary remains unchanged at €7,255 before tax. Applications must be submitted by 19 August to the email address konkurss@mk.gov.lv.
The previous competition, launched on 29 May, attracted six applicants but yielded no candidates for the next round, prompting the commission to close it without a result. Justice Minister Andris Kulbergs said the earlier criteria were excessively high, limiting participation. The former director, Raivis Kronbergs, had been detained in a timber‑related case in May and subsequently left the office.
