Lau Chu Hoa horror film heads to North American theaters
The Vietnamese found-footage horror film ‘Lau Chu Hoa: The Deadliest Mansion’ is set to expand into North American theaters starting September 4. Mockingbird Pictures is managing the rollout, placing the film in AMC, Regal, and Cinemark circuits.
Directed by Hùng Trần, the film was Vietnam’s first theatrical found-footage horror release. Following its June debut, it became a breakout hit, earning over VND78 billion ($3 million) and attracting more than one million admissions. The plot follows a group of streamers who enter the haunted Hứa family estate, only to encounter a malevolent force tied to a local urban legend.
The production was a collaboration between Runup Vietnam and South Korea’s Hive Media Corp, representing the Korean company’s first production investment outside of South Korea. Mockingbird Pictures stated the release is part of a broader initiative to introduce Vietnamese commercial cinema to international audiences.
