Launceston College announces ten commitments to improve community relations
Launceston College in North Cornwall has announced ten commitments for the upcoming academic year aimed at improving relationships with parents and the local community. The initiative follows feedback gathered through surveys and focus groups.
New head of school Linda Blackburn stated the commitments are ‘about listening to feedback and turning it into practical action.’ The plan addresses five key areas: leadership and communication, discipline and wellbeing, inclusivity, teacher autonomy, and community links.
Specific measures include assigning senior leadership members to year groups, reviewing the school’s ‘Consequences System’ to support student wellbeing, and providing tutors with more one-to-one time with students. The college is also prioritizing student spaces, recently opening a new sheltered outdoor area called The Pavilion, and reviewing its Inclusion Base for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
The college has previously faced controversy regarding teaching and discipline, issues that contributed to the dissolution of the Athena Multi Academy Trust.
