Laundry experts share tips for efficient washing and drying
Experts offer practical advice for optimizing laundry routines to save time and energy. Regarding washing, stylist Šárka Štursová suggests that quick wash cycles are effective for lightly soiled items like t-shirts or sportswear. She notes that higher temperatures and longer programs are not always better, as excessive heat can cause shrinkage, fading, or loss of elasticity in certain fabrics. For colorful clothing, temperatures between 30 and 40 degrees Celsius are often sufficient.
For drying, laundry expert Gwil Snook from AO.com recommends adding one or two clean tennis balls to a tumble dryer to speed up the process. The balls move between garments, preventing them from clumping together and allowing hot air to circulate more effectively. This method is particularly useful for bulky items like towels or duvets, potentially reducing drying time, lowering electricity consumption, and minimizing wrinkles.
