Laundry experts share tips to prevent clothing damage during outdoor drying

Laundry experts suggest several methods to prevent damage to clothing when drying outdoors, such as clip marks, wrinkles, or fading. To avoid visible marks, experts recommend turning clothes inside out before hanging them to protect colors from sun damage.

For delicate fabrics or shirts, using hangers is preferred over clothespins to maintain shape and prevent creases. If clips must be used, experts suggest attaching them to sturdier areas like hems, seams, or waistbands rather than the chest or shoulders. For heavy items like sweaters, draping them over a line is better than clipping them to prevent stretching.

Additionally, using padded clothespins can distribute pressure more evenly, and utilizing portable drying racks can provide a flat surface for delicate items to avoid the need for clips entirely.
