Laura Colazo appointed President of Federal Climate Change Commission

Laura Colazo, a provincial legislator from Tierra del Fuego, has been appointed President of the Federal Commission on Climate Change within the Legislaturas Conectadas network. The appointment took place during the 10th Meeting of Federal Commissions held in Buenos Aires.

Colazo emphasized the importance of a federal approach to environmental issues, aiming to create legislative tools and state policies that address climate challenges across different jurisdictions. During the meeting, she presented the ‘Declaration on Climate Action and Interparliamentary Cooperation’ to national legislators to foster collaborative work.

Colazo also criticized the current national administration, alleging that the government denies climate change and has deactivated existing environmental structures. She argued that because natural resources belong to the provinces under the National Constitution, provincial governments must play a central role in preserving environmental standards and protecting vulnerable populations from extreme weather events.
