Laura Freigang faces possible two‑year doping ban

The German Football Association (DFB) has opened a disciplinary procedure against national‑team captain Laura Freigang after she missed three anti‑doping tests within a twelve‑month period, a case first reported by the National Anti‑Doping Agency (NADA) in early June. The DFB’s control committee says the matter is complex, involving extensive medical and legal questions, and therefore the investigation is proceeding with “careful thoroughness rather than speed.”

If found guilty, Freigang could receive a suspension of up to two years, which would bar her from both the German national side and her club, Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite the pending case, the club confirmed she will remain in the squad for the upcoming Champions‑League qualifying match against Omonia Nicosia on Wednesday. Eintracht director Katharina Kiel emphasized the club’s support for the player while the DFB awaits a final decision from its independent legal bodies.
