Laura Isabel Fernández returns to classical ballet

Dominican dancer Laura Isabel Fernández is returning to the classical ballet stage after a 12-year hiatus. She will star in “La Ciguapa – Una leyenda de amor,” an original production by Alina Abreu.

The ballet fuses Dominican folklore with classical dance techniques. The performance coincides with the celebration of Abreu’s 40-year artistic career. Fernández, who was trained by Abreu, described the return as a way to reconnect with an essential part of herself and honor her mentor’s legacy.

Fernández will be accompanied by Alexander Duval, a principal dancer, teacher, and choreographer from the National Ballet of the Dominican Republic.
