Laura Itzel Castillo assumes leadership of Mexico's Secretaría de las Mujeres
Laura Itzel Castillo has officially assumed her role as the head of the Secretaría de las Mujeres following her appointment by President Claudia Sheinbaum. Castillo, who previously served as the President of the Senate, succeeds Citlalli Hernández Mora.
During her inauguration, Castillo pledged to continue and deepen public policies aimed at ensuring substantive equality and the right of women to live free from violence. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining existing programs, such as the National Care Policy and the Centros LIBRE, which have provided over one million services.
Castillo highlighted her long-standing political career dedicated to women's rights, including her past work in the Chamber of Deputies and her leadership in promoting legislative reforms regarding sexual abuse and gender equity. She stated that her feminist convictions are part of a broader social struggle for justice and equality.
