Laura Itzel Castillo testifies before Mexican Chamber of Deputies
Laura Itzel Castillo Juárez, head of the Secretariat of Women, appeared before the Chamber of Deputies in San Lázaro to report on the agency's progress and challenges. Castillo, who was appointed by President Claudia Sheinbaum, previously served as a senator and federal deputy.
The session was marked by intense confrontations between the Morena party and opposition members. PAN legislator Kenia López raised allegations of corruption regarding the leadership of the INE, while Paulina Rubio criticized the government's response to a letter from Cecilia Flores, a mother searching for missing family members.
During her testimony, Castillo announced that the Secretariat of Women has signed agreements with the Agency for Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, Google, Meta, and TikTok. These agreements aim to accelerate the removal of online content and images that constitute violence against women.
