Tampico woman severely injured in traffic crash; family demands driver pay medical bills

On July 27, 2026, 26‑year‑old Laura Magali Hernández Martínez was struck by a pickup truck while riding a motor scooter at the intersection of Encino and México streets in the Nuevo Progreso neighbourhood of Tampico, Tamaulipas. She suffered a fractured pelvis, liver rupture and internal hemorrhaging, leaving her in critical condition.

Laura’s sister, Karla Edith Hernández Martínez, and their mother have accused the driver of refusing to assume financial responsibility. They allege shortcomings in the public health response at Hospital General de Zona No. 6 of the IMSS, claiming a lack of cots, imaging equipment and timely care, which forced them to transfer Laura to the private Médica Salve hospital. To date they have paid roughly 80,000 pesos and continue to incur further expenses. The family has filed a complaint urging the authorities to hold the driver liable for the medical costs and to investigate the incident thoroughly.
