Laura Mestre Hevia's translation of the Odyssey published

A new edition of Homer's 'Odyssey' has been released, featuring a Greek-to-Spanish translation by Laura Mestre Hevia (1867–1944). The 500-page volume is a co-edition between the Colombian publisher Amor Vincit and the Instituto de Literatura y Lingüística de Cuba, with the edition overseen by philologist Elina Miranda Cancela.

Mestre Hevia was a self-taught scholar proficient in Latin, Greek, French, English, and Italian. Her work represents the first complete Homeric translations by a female translator into Spanish. The publication brings renewed attention to her legacy as a humanist and advocate for women's independence, following her historical exclusion from certain academic positions.
