Laura Moreno resigns as Sumar's organization secretary

Laura Moreno, the secretary of organization for the Spanish left-wing coalition Sumar, submitted her resignation on Tuesday. In a letter to the party's coordinating group she cited “injustices and lack of respect” from the leadership and disclosed that an internal investigation has been launched into leader Lara Hernández over “concerning behaviours” toward staff.

Moreno’s departure follows a series of exits from Sumar over the past year, including the resignation of its second‑vice president Yolanda Díaz as general coordinator after poor European election results, as well as the earlier resignations of the party’s communication chief and other senior figures. The resignation comes ahead of an extraordinary party assembly expected on 11 July, where new leadership may be chosen.

Political commentators note that the resignation adds to perceptions of internal turmoil within Sumar as it prepares for upcoming general elections and negotiations with allied parties such as IU, Más Madrid and the Greens.
