Laura Robson retires from professional tennis

British tennis player Laura Robson has retired from professional competition following a career significantly impacted by persistent injuries. Once considered a major prospect for British tennis, Robson achieved notable success as a teenager, including winning the Wimbledon girls' singles title at age 14.

Her professional breakthrough occurred in 2012 and 2013, highlighted by reaching the fourth round of the US Open with victories over Kim Clijsters and Li Na, and winning an Olympic silver medal in mixed doubles alongside Andy Murray. She reached a career-high WTA singles ranking of No. 27 and was named the WTA Newcomer of the Year.

However, a series of wrist and hip injuries, including three hip surgeries, prevented her from maintaining momentum. After struggling to return to the top 150 following a 2016 comeback, she retired at age 28. Robson has since transitioned into television work.
