Laura Siegemund announces indefinite hiatus from professional tennis

German tennis player Laura Siegemund has announced an indefinite hiatus from professional tennis. The 38-year-old, currently ranked 98th in the WTA rankings, stated via social media that she decided to take a break following Wimbledon to focus on her mental and physical recovery.

As a result of this decision, Siegemund will not participate in the upcoming US Open or the North American swing of tournaments. Her recent season has seen challenging results, including first-round exits at both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, and a second-round exit at the Australian Open.

Siegemund, a former US Open doubles champion, noted that she intends to see where this break leads her after she has had time to rest. Her ranking is expected to decline further during her absence from competition.
