Laura Siegemund leaves professional tennis return uncertain
German tennis player Laura Siegemund has left her potential return to the WTA Tour uncertain as she focuses on physical and mental recovery. The 38-year-old, a three-time Grand Slam winner in women’s doubles and mixed doubles, announced a break in August to address ongoing physical issues and mental exhaustion.
Siegemund stated in an interview with RTL/Sky Sport that any decision regarding a comeback will depend on her physical condition, whether her health issues are fully resolved, and her level of motivation. She noted, “I just want to see how things develop now and then actually decide a bit based on how I feel, how my body is holding up... And then, of course, it’ll depend a bit on my enthusiasm.”
In addition to her personal status, Siegemund commented on the success of Alexander Zverev, describing his recent achievements as “historic” for German tennis. She expressed hope that his performance would inspire a new generation of players to take up the sport.
