Lauren Silverman has spoken about the “embarrassed and ashamed” feelings she experienced following the affair that began her relationship with Simon Cowell. The controversy arose in 2013 when Silverman became pregnant with their son, Eric, while still married to her former husband, Andrew Silverman.

In an interview with The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, Silverman described the public backlash as feeling like a “scarlet letter on my chest.” She noted that she struggled for a long time with the criticism and allowed the public's opinion to define her. While she stated she is not attempting to evade accountability for her actions, she expressed a desire to show compassion to her former self rather than continuing to “beat myself up.”

Simon Cowell previously acknowledged that he “let down” his friend Andrew during the incident. Despite the initial scandal and the divorce filed by Andrew citing adultery, the relationship between Cowell and Silverman has continued, and the couple has expressed intentions to marry in the future.
