CFR Cluj defeats FC Argeș amid financial and leadership tensions
CFR Cluj secured a 1-0 away victory against FC Argeș in the Superliga, with Anton Kresic scoring the decisive goal in the 58th minute. Despite the win, CFR Cluj faces significant internal challenges, including insolvency with debts totaling approximately 37.5 million euros. Manager Marius Șumudică noted that the team is currently forced to play for results rather than style due to financial constraints, mentioning that players have accepted salary reductions to help the club.
Club owner Neluțu Varga has issued an ultimatum to Hendrik Klein, stating that if Klein does not bring in funding within a month, he will be removed. Varga also addressed transfer rumors regarding star player Andrei Cordea, denying that an agreement has been reached with a Chinese club, though he remains open to selling if a suitable offer arrives. Cordea himself revealed he has lost approximately 180,000 euros due to the club's insolvency.
In terms of squad changes, Șumudică expressed interest in FC Argeș striker Ricardo Matos, while FCSB is reportedly monitoring Cordea as a potential transfer target for the winter window. Additionally, former FCSB player Andrea Compagno is expected to become a free agent following a serious injury in South Korea, potentially making him an attractive option for Superliga clubs.
