Laurent Nuñez accused of leaking false drug info regarding Rima Hassan

French Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez is facing intense political pressure following allegations that he contributed to the spread of inaccurate information regarding MEP Rima Hassan. The controversy stems from Hassan’s police custody in April, during which media reports suggested she was in possession of synthetic drugs.

An investigation by the program ‘Complément d’enquête’ claims that Nuñez participated in disseminating these false claims during an off-the-record discussion with journalists. Nuñez has denied organizing any leaks, stating he was merely responding to inquiries about information already circulating in the press and that he had urged caution regarding the facts.

Subsequent forensic analysis by the Paris Prosecutor’s Office revealed that the substances found in Hassan’s belongings were primarily CBD and did not match the descriptions of synthetic drugs initially reported. The investigation into drug possession was ultimately dropped. In response to the alleged leaks, Hassan’s lawyer, Vincent Brengarth, has requested a judicial inquiry and the formal questioning of the Interior Minister.
