Laurent Ruquier evacuated from Cap Ferret during Gironde wildfires
French television presenter Laurent Ruquier was forced to undergo an emergency nighttime evacuation from Cap Ferret due to devastating wildfires in the Gironde region. Ruquier revealed during a radio broadcast on RTL that he was woken up at 3:00 a.m. to flee the area after only thirty-six hours of his vacation.
Ruquier addressed his decision to remain silent about the incident on social media, stating that he considered himself a “privileged” individual. He explained that he chose not to share his experience to avoid overshadowing the real suffering and losses experienced by local residents and business owners.
Other public figures, including Julien Courbet, Sophie Davant, and Gwendoline Hamon, were also among those evacuated during the fires. The wildfires in the Arcachon basin necessitated the emergency evacuation of approximately 220,000 residents and tourists as firefighters worked to contain the flames.
