Laurent Voulzy expresses interest in monastic life
French singer Laurent Voulzy, 77, has expressed a deep interest in pursuing a monastic life, describing a long-standing spiritual quest. During an interview on the program ‘Domino’ on ABC Talk, the artist revealed that he has contemplated entering a monastery since his 40s or 50s.
Voulzy described his daily practice of prayer and meditation as a duty to help clear his mind, noting that he prays for God, the Virgin Mary, the deceased, and those who are ill in his circle. While he feels drawn to the spiritual quiet of a cloister, he expressed hesitation, weighing his need for spirituality against a lifestyle he perceives as somewhat selfish.
Despite these reflections, Voulzy is not retiring from music. After a period of writing and composing, he returned to the stage in the summer of 2025 for tours and festivals. His connection to spiritual settings is well-documented, having performed over 300 concerts in religious venues, such as the Cathedral of Sens and Saint-Eustache in Paris, between 2018 and 2023.
