Laurie Daley resigns as NSW Blues coach after 2026 Origin series win

Laurie Daley announced his resignation as head coach of the New South Wales State of Origin team on Monday, stepping down after guiding the Blues to a 2‑1 series victory over Queensland at Suncorp Stadium. The NSWRL confirmed the decision, noting Daley’s statement that ending his tenure with the shield back in New South Wales made the move easier. In a tribute, NSWRL chief executive David Trodden praised Daley’s contributions as both a player and a coach, highlighting his role in ending Queensland’s eight‑year dominance in 2014 and delivering the 2026 triumph.

Daley’s coaching record now includes two series wins from six attempts across two stints. The organization said it will take time to appoint a successor, with current assistants Matt King and Boyd Cordner and former coach Ivan Cleary mentioned as potential candidates.
