Italy prepares school year 2026/2027 services and subsidies

A national fund of 136 million euros is being distributed among regions for school textbooks, supplemented by a 20 million euro fund for municipalities. Additionally, the Ministry of Culture has extended the deadline for the ‘Librerie under 35’ grant to October 13, 2026, offering 4 million euros to support young bookstore owners. Local municipalities like Città di Castello are also allocating funds, such as 65,000 euros for Tari tax reimbursements for low-income families.

Logistical services including school meals, transport, and after-school care are being confirmed. In regions like Umbria, over 100,000 students are preparing to return to classrooms. Specific local measures include free school transport in Lauro and taxi-school services in Livorno for peripheral areas. In Emilia-Romagna, a pilot program of nearly free extracurricular activities has been implemented in 42 municipalities to support families before the official start of classes. Meanwhile, in Catania, unions are calling for better organization of Asacom services to ensure continuity of assistance for students with disabilities.
