Laut Bercerita film set for Indonesian release on October 29

The film adaptation of the novel ‘Laut Bercerita’ is scheduled for a simultaneous theatrical release in Indonesian cinemas starting October 29, 2026. Producer Gita Fara stated that the release date was chosen to coincide with the momentum of Sumpah Pemuda (Youth Pledge Day) on October 28, aiming to celebrate the spirit of Indonesian youth.

Directed by Yosep Anggi Noen and based on the bestselling novel by Leila S. Chudori, the film explores themes of student activism and the political events surrounding 1998. Noen noted that the film utilizes a popular culture approach rather than a rigid historical style to bridge the gap between the 1998 setting and modern audiences. This includes integrating elements of romance, family, and music from artists such as Efek Rumah Kaca and Iwan Fals to create emotional resonance across generations.

As a commercial release, the film's longevity in theaters will depend on audience enthusiasm during its initial days of screening.
