Laut Bercerita selected for Busan International Film Festival main competition

The Indonesian film “Laut Bercerita” (internationally titled “The Sea Speaks His Name”) has been selected for the main competition at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea. Directed by Yosep Anggi Noen and produced by Pal8 Pictures, the film marks the first time an Indonesian production has competed in the festival's main competition category.

Producer Gita Fara noted that because BIFF is an Oscar-qualifying festival, a win in the main competition could make the film eligible for consideration in the Best International Feature Film category at the 2027 Academy Awards. The film, which is adapted from a popular Indonesian novel, will have its world premiere at BIFF in October 2026 before its domestic theatrical release in Indonesia on October 29, 2026.
