Lautaro Britos' Death Leads to Four-Month Preventive Detention for Accused Luna Agüero Regalado in Argentina
Lautaro Rodrigo Britos, a 22‑year‑old from San Luis, Argentina, died on 5 August after being sprayed with gasoline and set on fire by his partner, Luna Agüero Regalado. He spent six days in intensive care at the Policlínico Regional with extensive burns, respiratory injury and pneumonia, ultimately succumbing to septic shock and multiorgan failure.
Prosecutor Gisela Milstein re‑filed the case as "qualified homicide by intimate partner with intentional arson" and asked the court to keep Agüero Regalado in preventive detention. Judge Natalia Pereyra Cardini granted a four‑month preventive prison order, rejecting the defense’s request for house arrest despite the accused’s claim of caring for an infant. The investigation continues, with a psychiatric evaluation of the accused and an autopsy of Britos pending.
