In the Palermo-Sampdoria fixture, Calvarese argued that Palermo's Antonio Palumbo should have received a direct red card for a high-intensity contact with Liam Henderson. He criticized both the on-field referee, Matteo Marchetti, and the VAR, Manuel Volpi, for failing to intervene in an incident where Henderson was struck forcefully in an unprotected area of the leg.

Regarding the Inter-Napoli match, opinions on referee Simone Sozza's decisions are divided. Some reports suggest Lautaro Martínez should have been sent off following a physical contact with Rafa Marin and a subsequent celebration involving climbing perimeter fences. While some analysts argue the celebration violated IFAB/FIGC regulations regarding player conduct, Calvarese defended the decision not to issue a second yellow for the contact with Marin, stating Martínez was merely using his body energetically within the rules.
