Lautaro's historic Arturo Alessandri Bridge may reopen in six months

Authorities in Chile are exploring alternatives to rehabilitate the historic Arturo Alessandri Bridge, known as the Puente Viejo de Lautaro, rather than demolishing it. The structure, which spans the Cautín River, suffered damage during a recent frontal system.

Following meetings between Minister of Public Works Louis De Grange, Senator Miguel Becker, Mayor Ricardo Jaramillo, and Deputy Juan Carlos Beltrán, officials indicated that the bridge could potentially be restored for vehicular traffic within five to six months. This timeline remains subject to technical studies to confirm the viability of the recovery and to define the necessary resources.

Local leaders expressed optimism regarding the possibility of preserving the significant infrastructure and restoring connectivity to the Lautaro commune.
