Lava Hot Springs opens new improved hot pool

Lava Hot Springs in Idaho celebrated the grand opening of its new and improved hot pool on September 3. Executive Director Tyson Koester and Commissioner Jeff Hough performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the facility, which was designed to replace an original pool built in the 1970s that had developed significant structural issues.

The construction project included a state-of-the-art landscaping feature called the ‘Sunken Garden,’ which offers walking paths and views of the hot springs and waterfalls. To ensure long-term safety and stability near Highway 30, engineers installed a solid foundation with helical spheres anchored to bedrock.

In addition to structural improvements, the new pool features enhanced accessibility, including two wheelchair ramps, new stairs, and loungers. The construction process required dewatering 2.6 million gallons of water from the area.
