Lavalleja Departmental Board addresses labor and infrastructure concerns
During sessions of the Lavalleja Departmental Board, opposition members raised concerns regarding administrative management and local infrastructure.
Councilman Pablo Langone proposed several infrastructure improvements to enhance safety for residents and transporters. His requests include the construction of sidewalks on Orlando Giordano street to protect pedestrians, new lighting along Route 6 near the Verdún area to assist timber truck drivers, and the reconstruction of a transit shelter in Cerrezuelo that was displaced by previous roadworks.
Separately, opposition councilwoman María Noel Pereira addressed concerns regarding labor stability within the department. During an extraordinary session attended by Mayor Daniel Ximénez, Pereira criticized the potential non-renewal of numerous employment contracts, describing the situation as a loss of worker rights and a sign of administrative disorder. The debate centered on the number of affected employees and the impact of contract terminations on municipal public works.
