Lavalleja leaders seek meeting to prevent FNC plant closure
Political leaders in Lavalleja are seeking a meeting with Minister of Economy and Finance Gabriel Oddone to address the announced closure of the Fábricas Nacionales de Cerveza (FNC) plant in Minas. Lavalleja Intendant Daniel Ximénez met with Senator Alexandra Inzaurralde and Deputies Adriana Peña and Javier Umpiérrez to coordinate a departmental response and present alternatives to preserve local jobs.
Local business representatives have also expressed deep concern regarding the closure. The Centro Comercial e Industrial de Lavalleja (CCIL) is monitoring the situation closely and intends to issue specific statements regarding the matter next Friday. While local commerce groups continue to promote regional initiatives like the ‘Modo Minas’ project, the potential loss of the historic brewery remains a primary concern for the local economy.
