Laveno Mombello traffic: Civitas supports new infrastructure dialogue
The political group Civitas has expressed support for the resumed dialogue between the Municipality and the Province of Laveno Mombello regarding local traffic and infrastructure. The discussions include potential solutions such as maintaining the Boesio Overpass by converting it to a single-lane, one-way exit, alongside the construction of a new crossing over the Boesio.
Civitas noted that this approach was previously included in a 2023 Masterplan but was stalled due to insufficient provincial funding to cover both the new bridge and the necessary safety interventions for the existing overpass. The group stated that if the financial capacity to address both projects now exists, the development is a positive step.
A primary concern raised by the group is the management of heavy vehicle traffic. Civitas emphasized that any new infrastructure must prevent the town center from becoming a primary route for heavy trucks to protect resident health, safety, and the local urban environment. They previously requested that the SP69 road between Laveno and Cerro be restricted to heavy vehicles. Additionally, the group maintains that the permanent closure of the Ferrovie Nord level crossing remains an unresolved issue.
