Lavinia Valbonesi requests privacy following loss of unborn son

Lavinia Valbonesi, wife of Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa, issued a public statement on August 17, 2026, following the loss of her unborn son, Stefano Noboa Valvonesi, due to medical complications.

In a post on the social media platform X, Valbonesi requested that her family's private tragedy be removed from political debate. She stated, “My baby was not a news story, a stance, or an argument. He was my son,” while expressing distress over the politicization of her grief.

Following the official announcement of the loss on August 15, the Ecuadorian government initiated official mourning protocols. This includes flying flags at half-mast for three consecutive days at major state power locations, as confirmed by Minister of Government Nataly Morillo.
