Lavrov and Rubio may discuss Ukraine at potential UN meeting

Preparations are underway for a potential meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in New York during the United Nations General Assembly. According to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, the situation in Ukraine is expected to be a central topic of discussion if the meeting occurs.

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict continue, following recent visits to Moscow and Kyiv by U.S. special envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. While U.S. officials, including NATO representative Matthew Whitaker, acknowledge that Kyiv and Moscow are currently unable to reach a final agreement to end hostilities, there is discussion regarding potential ceasefire arrangements, such as halting attacks on energy infrastructure, to move toward a resolution. A new round of trilateral peace negotiations is reportedly planned for October.
