LAVTA Celebrates 40 Years and Offers Free Festival Rides
The Livermore Amador Valley Transit Authority (LAVTA) marked its 40th anniversary on July 27, 2026 with a celebration at the Livermore Transit Center that attracted more than 250 attendees. Executive Director Christy Wegener highlighted the agency’s growth from a handful of buses in 1986 to a network of 16 fixed routes and 60 vehicles, including Bus Rapid Transit on the 10R and 30R corridors.
In conjunction with the anniversary, LAVTA provided free bus service on routes 10R, 30R and 15 for the Livermore Downtown Street Festival on May 16‑17, 2026. The free rides were intended to boost ridership, reduce traffic, and give festival‑goers convenient access to the event. "Offering fare‑free service helps grow transit ridership and minimizes parking hassles," said David Mark, LAVTA Director of Customer Experience.
