Law and Justice party proposes firearm access reforms in Poland

The Law and Justice (PiS) party has announced the launch of broad public consultations aimed at “rationalizing” firearm access in Poland. Following an appeal by President Karol Nawrocki, who noted that only 1% of Poles currently have access to weapons, PiS Vice President Przemysław Czarnek stated the party intends to discuss removing bureaucratic barriers to increase national defense readiness.

The proposed consultations will involve soldiers, service members, hunters, sports shooters, instructors, and historical reenactment groups. The party's stated goal is to ensure more citizens can safely use firearms to defend themselves and the country without compromising internal security.

The initiative has met with mixed political reactions. Andrzej Grzyb, chairman of the parliamentary national defense committee, indicated a lack of enthusiasm for liberalization among most political groups outside of the Confederation party, noting that the debate remains divided between those seeking stricter controls and those opposing new restrictions.
