Law enforcement operations target child exploitation in US

Law enforcement agencies across the United States have conducted major multi-agency operations targeting child exploitation and human trafficking, resulting in dozens of arrests.

In North Carolina, ‘Operation Midnight Shadow’ led to 14 arrests and 68 criminal charges following a month-long investigation. The operation, involving the Lee County Sheriff's Office and the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, targeted individuals attempting to exploit minors online. Investigators utilized undercover tactics, posing as children to communicate with suspects. The investigation spanned multiple states, including Kentucky, Tennessee, and Nevada.

In North Texas, ‘Operation Red Card’ resulted in 56 arrests during a crackdown coinciding with the FIFA World Cup. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office reported that ten of those arrested were accused of attempting to meet minors for sex. The operation involved undercover officers posing as prostitutes and minors to respond to online advertisements. Officials noted that large-scale events like the World Cup can create increased opportunities for such crimes.
