Law enforcement operations target criminal groups in Mexico and Peru

In Mexico, the Secretariat of Public Security and the Secretariat of the Navy conducted a joint operation in the Chietla region of Puebla. Authorities arrested Norberto N., identified as the alleged leader of the criminal group ‘Los Pelones’. He is accused of involvement in drug trafficking, extortion, and illegal possession of military-grade firearms in the localities of Ahuehuetzingo, Escape de Lagunillas, and Atencingo. Also detained was Noel N., known as ‘El Tarrito,’ a member of the same group. During the intervention, officials seized a long firearm, ammunition, illicit substances, and two motorcycles.

In Peru, authorities conducted a police operation at the Ancón I prison to transfer members of ‘La Confederación,’ a criminal alliance suspected of coordinating extortion and money laundering from within prison cells. One of the targeted individuals, Adán Smith Lucano Cotrina, alias ‘El Jorobado,’ filed a habeas corpus petition to prevent his transfer, citing health concerns. The Director of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE), Abraham Lescano Salazar, noted that inmates frequently use legal mechanisms through lawyers to obstruct such transfer strategies.
