Law Kar-ying reflects on marriage, past romance, and Cantonese opera legacy

Veteran entertainer and Cantonese opera performer Law Kar-ying has shared reflections on his personal life, career, and health in recent interviews. He discussed his long-term relationship with wife Ada Choi, noting that while they often defer to one another in daily life, he maintains strict professional boundaries as a director, even when working with her.

Law revealed that to support Ada Choi during her rehearsals years ago, he sold his property in Wan Chai and stopped taking other work for a year to focus on her career. He also opened up about his previous 14-year relationship with opera star Li Po-ying, which ended quietly in 1987 due to personality differences and shifting professional partnerships.

Having survived four bouts with cancer, the 79-year-old expressed a renewed sense of urgency regarding his legacy. He stated his desire to contribute to the preservation of Cantonese opera and hopes to film a final classic movie as a career capstone.
